The selling of Alexandria Bank share that reached ( 24%) in the Egyptian-American Bank to The French Clion Bank raised several questions. The selling of the Egyptian-American Bank took only five days after the formation of the cabinet that included eight businessmen. The two ministers' company won the deal at a price less than the share price in the stocks. Through a simple comparison between both banks, we would discover that the small Calion bank bought the Egyptian-American Bank which was considered bigger. The number of Calion shares in Egypt reached about eight million and half. Its expected profit in 2005 did not exceed 58 million pounds while its deposits were closer to seven billion pounds. The shares in the Egyptian-American Bank reached 64 millions. Its profit in the last year reached 250 million ounds while its deposits exceeded eight billion pounds .

This deal raised several questions about the relation between businessmen, authority and the misuse of power in achieving economic profits which would have never been reached except through authority. The government responded to some of the accusations brought against some of its ministers over business and trade activities. It denied that some of its ministers had special interests in privatization operation. Dr. Mofeed Shehab, the minister of the legal affairs and parliamentary councils stressed that the ministers should not carry out any trade activities in commitment to the constitution that banned them to perform selling and purchase operations.

Shehab, before the People's Assembly economic committee, approved that businessmen would join the new cabinet, adding that " performance was the most important). Shehab unveiled that all businessmen that joined the cabinet gave up other activities. He added that the Minister of Transport confirmed in a written response that he abandoned his trade activities before he was sworn-in. Shehab presented an explanation, which he described as personal and not legal over some of the ministers' stock tradings, saying: the minister's selling some of his shares before holding his cabinet post can not be listed as a trade activity upon which he should be interrogated, even if the shares reached 25% of either the company or the bank, as long as it was carried out once. He added that interrogation was required in case the operation was carried out several times .

Sample : The sample used was a "sample of convenience". Shops were approached along Canley Vale Road. The UN backed commission investigating fraud in the Afghan presidential poll has ordered the invalidation of results from 210 polling stations. A second round of voting may now be on the cards, after evidence discoverd by the Electoral Complaints Commission. The Commission has said it discovered clear and convincing evidence of fraud after its nearly two-month-long investigation into Afghanistan's August 20th poll. A certain percentage of each candidate's votes have been ordered to be scapped by the commission. UN officials have said they are now expecting an announcement from the Independent Election Commission of a final certified result or the requirement for a second round of voting. Preliminary results from the election showed Afghan President Hamid Karzai winning with 54 percent. His nearest rival, former Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah, had 28 percent. Karzai officials have said they will await a ruling from election officials before making a statement. Mr Karzai's election team has previously criticised the Electoral Complaints Commission procedure for collecting voting information. Most of the fraudulent ballots are believed to benefit the Afghan president.

Stereotypes about India and Hinduism when taught as fact in American classrooms may negatively impact students of South Asian origin who are struggling to work out their identity in a multi-cultural, predominately "Anglo"-Christian environment. This paper discusses the topic of prejudicial representations of India in U.S. textbooks by exploring the reactions of Hindu students who have studied about India in American secondary schools. This paper reviews the coverage of India in World History textbooks used in American social studies classes. It also discusses, in brief, the biased treatment of Hinduism in classes at the university level.

Negative images about other cultures that main-stream North Americans are inevitably taught in school or at church or through the media, attitudes and misconceptions color their personal socialization experience. Sensationalist news-wire stories about India often provide American school teachers with preconceived ideas that they bring with them into the classroom. Teachers can play a critical role in eliminating cultural prejudices, but, if they reinforce stereotypes about cultures different than their own, and present biased information about non-Western traditions in their classes, the value of Global Education--preparing citizens for the 21st Century--is lost. A myopic, short-sighted focus on the world, solely through the eyes of the dominant culture, undermines the oft stated goal of social studies education--to create citizens who are proud of their role in a pluralistic society and able to relate to other societies from an informed perspective.

When the life styles and world-views of other peoples are not approached appropriately and respectfully, prejudicial misconceptions are perpetuated. If children of South Asian descent are taught
mostly negative stereotypes about India in American classrooms, it can impact their identity formation. In negotiating these challenges, maintaining neutrality is challenging. The predominately negative representations about Hinduism and India, found even at the university level, cause "heritage" students to either feel embarrassed to be Indian or motivates them to rise in defense of their ancestral homeland. In the last few years there has been significant attention paid to this topic by members of the Indian diasporic community in the USA. These efforts, though controversial, will ultimately have a positive impact on the field.

In the Indonesian case, non-collusive corruption during the Suharto regime was supported by subsidies including low timber royalties, monopolies in the export of processed wood products and loans at subsidised rates. Arguably, the financial contributions made by the timber industry for Suharto's benefit may not have been economically viable without the subsidies that artificially inflated their profits.

The situation in Indonesia after the fall of Suharto, however, appears to support Schleifer and Vishny's (1993) contention that economic competition may increase collusive corruption. Economic competition in the plywood industry increased markedly after Suharto's fall because plywood from Indonesia, which is produced from tropical hardwoods, began to be undercut by plywood with cheap timber cores from China. At the same time demand from Japan declined due to the downturn in the Japanese economy (ITTO 2002). These factors are reflected in a substantial fall in the price of Indonesian plywood, whose price index (with January 1997 as 100) declined during the course of 2001 from 60 to 45 (ITTO 2002).

Confidential interviews with timber investors and contractors in East Kalimantan revealed that faced with the price decline, companies used collusive corruption to cut costs and thus maintain returns to sunk investments in machinery and distribution infrastructure. In fact one claimed that it was no longer possible to make profits without resorting to such means. The implication is that while economic competition may, arguably, reduce non-collusive corruption it also runs the risk of exacerbating collusive corruption. In a major blow for 73-year-old Berlusconi, Italy's top court ruled that a law granting him immunity from prosecution while he is in office violates the constitution. The verdict will reopen two trials against him that were suspended. The scandal-hit premiere has condemned the ruling by the court as politically motivated, reports The Telegraph.

Speaking outside his residence in Rome, he said: "Nothing will happen, we will go forward. The trials they will hurl at me in Milan are real farces. I will take time out from taking care of government to go there and show them to be liars." He said he felt "invigorated" by the whole affair and ended his statement by shouting "Long live Italy! Long live Berlusconi!" Berlusconi has attacked Italy's president, the bulk of the media, magistrates and the constitutional court that stripped him of immunity of being leftists scheming against him.

The immunity law, one of Berlusconi's first acts after winning last year's election, halted all the cases against him, including one where he is accused of bribing British lawyer David Mills to give false testimony to protect his businesses. Two other cases, one accusing him of tax fraud and false accounting in the purchase of TV rights by Mediaset and another alleging he tried to corrupt opposition senators, have also been frozen. In the second Norwegian research programme on sexualised violence, one of the four areas considered especially important to continue to explore was the opposition that researchers meet when endeavouring to disseminate knowledge about sexual violence in the field. If, as in the case of many of us in the crises centre movement, you are in close contact with women and children who have been subjected to sexual abuse, this is not particularly surprising. As there is so much opposition to facing up to and doing something about the abuse that exists, researchers can only expect to meet this.

Anyway, for me, the emphasis that Norwegian researchers put on the question of opposition was an important confirmation with regards to the way in which I got started in the question of the sexual abuse of children some years earlier. When I decided to return to university after a break of many years, it was actually issues concerning the widespread general opposition to face up to the sexual abuse of children that I drove me to this. I shall briefly describe the background as to why this, in particular, was so important for me.

Women now make up a growing share of young adults in higher education; Retention rates for girls in Years 10-12 now outstrip the rate for boys; The Employment rate for women aged 15-64 years has increased from 29% in 1954 to 62.2% in 2003; Over 30% of Victoria's Parliamentarians are now women and 35% of Cabinet Ministers; In Victoria women, comprise 37% of mayors.

Despite these gains, there remains a real gap between expectations and the reality. I believe our move towards equity for women has stalled, if not actually gone backwards in some areas. I want to give you a brief snapshot of some of the key issues from one Commission's perspective on Bullying, Harassment and Violence. The Commission continues to see horrific examples of bullying and sexual harassment. The number of complaints has not decreased over the years. We also know that women continue to face unacceptable levels of family violence and sexual assault. Freedom from abuse is a fundamental human right we are still to realise as a community.

A related and growing problem is the legal status of immigrants' children born in Japan. Because contraception is not readily available to sex industry workers, unwanted pregnancies are common. If a birth is registered with neither a foreign consulate nor the Japanese state - the latter being impossible in the case of an unregistered marriage or if both parents are immigrants without legal status - the child is rendered legally "stateless." Fortunately for long-term residents, most school boards will accept such children at their parents' request. But if such a child is abandoned, as can happen when unregistered marriages end or the father is absent and the mother returns home alone, the child remains stateless, is ineligible for adoption, and is usually confined to state institutions until adulthood.

In a recent trend, a growing number of illegal migrants - reportedly up to 10 percent in 2002 - are applying for and receiving alien registration certificates to improve their access to social services. Although local authorities must then inform the Immigration Bureau of their status, that body says it is "not prepared to find and deport so many people." The Bureau also tacitly accepts that those who register "are rather deeply rooted in Japanese society," according to one Immigration official (Asahi Shimbun English edition, 16 July 2003).

The problem is that this dogma is also translated to the penal arena, radically altering what had been bedrock principles of justice in Western countries, such as the presumption of innocence or that the defendant gets the benefit of the doubt. Moreover the testimony of sometimes very small children is accepted as valid, occasionally done via video or obtained in exploratory interviews conducted by social science professionals and not by specialized prosecutors; the victim's word would be given more weight than that of the accused, for one was quite convinced that the former seemed quite innocent; validity was conferred to the declarations of third persons concerning what the child "had told them," accepted as evidence was the opinion -- always subjective and debatable -- of supposed "experts," psychologists and social workers, as to the veracity of the accusation; the most improbable medical indicia was sufficient to convict suspects. This is already happening in the European justice arena.

Lastly, combating this dramatic reality for the sake of a more just world -- as if that would solve one of the principal problems of society -- requires a rigid, infallible, and intolerant attitude with respect to these acts. This is what has recently become commonplace in Spain with news from the United States -- now extending to other countries - of sexual abuse within the Catholic church: so-called "zero tolerance," which puts each and every erotically-tinged experience on the same level and requires the reporting and prosecution of all such incidents. In the same way that every pornographic representation was once rejected and condemned, every erotic experience between a child and an adult is pointed to as being harmful and deserving of the most severe punishment.

To further minimise the risks and to ensure a more integrated response, the Victims of Crime Coordinator (VoCC) is now responsible for the overall management of the VSS. This is a logical extension of the VoCC's advocacy and educational role, enabling the Coordinator to bring together in the justice sector as many victim-focussed resources as possible.

As previously mentioned, this study employed a group of adolescents at a residential facility because of referral from the Department of Human Services or juvenile court or because of their recent discharge from inpatient care with no other alternative residence. As such, this sample of adolescents reflects a high-risk group and may not be representative of the general population of adolescents. However, an understanding of the psychological functioning of this subgroup of adolescents is particularly necessary because of their increased risk for future psychological problems. This study is also somewhat limited by the fact that it employed retrospective self-report of childhood abuse experiences and family environment. As a result, it is impossible to determine the chronological order of events with regards to abuse experiences and the quality of the family environment.

For example, disclosure of abuse may lead to an environment that is conflictual and unsupportive or, alternately, a family that is conflictual and unsupportive may provide a context in which abuse is permitted to occur. Further, retrospective data are limited by the fact that individuals with an abuse history may recall their families as more negative or, alternately, current distress may affect recall of abuse events and family functioning. Importantly, because of retrospective reporting, it is not possible to discern whether family environment or abuse characteristics have etiological significance for the development of depression and distress.

More interesting is the question whether there is still any kick still left in it. Might it be one of those who come to life only in old age? Could it be used, for example, to get round some of the restrictions in the Sex Discrimination Act 1975?

Greek transport amphorae in pistiros, bulgaria

Excavations at pistiros, located in north-eastern bulgaria (pazardzhik district), have been running since 1988 as a collaboration of bulgarian, czech, british and french missions. We would like to present the result of our work at pistiros during the last two years, which has focused on the fragments of transport amphorae.

The earliest imports in The earliest amphora imports in the emporion are dated to 475-430 bc, while the emporion enjoyed its golden age in the 4th century bc. This is also the date of the majority of the amphora finds. Most common are amphorae from north ionian greek centres (thasos, thasos circle, peparetos, lesbos, chios, mende), but others came from knidos and heracleia pontica. The emporion pistiros, located on the maritsa river, was the northernmost greek trading site in central thrace. The greek amphorae here were imported by river.

The stamps found to 2005 have already been published (pistiros iii, prague 2007). We focus mostly on the fragments of amphora toes and rims, on their morphology and determination of their place of production. As our team is rather large (consisting of three members), we hope to finish our work and publish the results in a complete form later.

According to Adviatic doctrine, the knowledge alone is considered as the means for liberation, since the root cause for human suffering is identified as the ignorance of ones own identity. While Vedanta emphasizes the knowledge that involves the non-duality of the individual soul and the totality, Brahman, some emphasize that Bhagawad Geeta endorses bhakti as the only means for liberation. It is recognized that unlike Vedanta, Geeta is a yoga shaastra or manual discussing the means to arrive at the end. Hence it is considered as both yoga shastra as well as brahma vidya. In this paper, we show that Geeta does not loose sight of the nature of the reality as expounded in the mahavaakyaas, while emphasizing the means to achieve the ultimate goal. In that sense, Bhakti and Karma as yogas become means to prepare the mind to gain the knowledge for liberation. The relevance of the goal and the means in relation to the 21st century will also be emphasized.
